Sports Week 2023

National Sports Week: Let’s Get Moving!

Monday the 19th of June to Friday the 23rd of June is National Sports Week, and Bexton plans to make it a week to remember and to be inspired by.

National Sports Week was set up by The Youth Sports Trust and it aims to encourage all pupils to get involved in sporting activities throughout the week.

At Bexton, we want everyone to see for themselves that there is a place in sport for every child, so we are delighted to share with you our very exciting itinerary for National Sports Week below.

We hope that this week will encourage and inspire the children, and it will greatly benefit their physical development, resilience and self-esteem. We also hope the week will bring together families, because you are able to play a part too!

The uniform for the week is sportswear. It may be a hot one, so please don’t forget to check the forecast and make sure the children come to school with hats, sun cream, and water bottles.

Monday

Kicking off in style, Athletes In Schools will be coming to Bexton first thing on Monday to wow the children with an inspiring launch assembly, carried out by Team GB decathlete Matt Lee and future Olympic high jumper Kate Anson.

After the assembly, Matt and Kate will be doing a fun P.E. session with every single class throughout the day. We cannot wait!

You can read more about Athletes In Schools on their website: HOME | Inspire A Generation (athletesinschools.co.uk)

Tuesday

Bexton will be welcoming the arrival of Enrich Education for their first of two days with us. Enrich Education is the UK’s official education partner of Quidditch UK. Yes, that’s right………Quidditch is coming to Bexton!

On Tuesday, the children will be wowed once again, as the Quidditch team will be in first thing to deliver an exciting launch assembly. After the assembly, they will carry out their unique and enjoyable quidditch sessions throughout the day with each class from Reception to Year 3.

Wednesday

In the absence of future Olympians and Quidditch, Wednesday will have a slightly different but equally exciting way to start the children’s day. His hair is thinner and his belly is bigger than Wicks’s, but we are still thrilled to say that Joe Twix will be gracing our grounds (with the help of our very limber staff team). The children will be registered before being invited to head outside on to the field for an engaging and high intensity workout with Twix & the Gang.

But that’s not all! Following the success of last year’s ‘Sponsored Run’, the children will be completing laps of our trim trail to raise money to support OPAL and the FOBs target of raising money for canopies outside the classrooms. We want to emphasise fun and fitness, but also safety, so the children will be monitored on how much they run during their timeslot in order to ensure they do not exceed the UK Athletics Association guidelines for children aged under 9 and between 9 and 11.

We thank you in advance for your support and any contribution you can make. We are so grateful for the continued support we receive from the family and friends of Bexton children.

Thursday

Bexton will be welcoming back Enrich Education for their second day of Quidditch activities. This day is for Year 3 to Year 6 pupils. But that’s not before ‘Twix & the Gang’ will be back outside from 09:00 to lead the whole school in another fun and high intensity workout to kick start their day.

At the end of the day, there will be a final celebration assembly for the whole school to close our Quidditch events.

Friday

It’s the big one…..Sports Day 2023! However, before Sports Day, we wanted to start the day in style with a whole school workout from 08:40 to 08:50 during drop off time. Parents, carers and children are all invited to join in a workout on the school field with ‘Twix & the Gang’ before morning registration. Please can all participating adults ensure they stretch properly and drink a lot of caffeine prior to 08:40.

Below is a running order for Bexton’s Sports Day on Friday 23rd June:

09:00 – 09:30 refreshments will be served on the junior playground by the reading bus after drop off.
